DEMING - New Mexico's building industry is one of many essential industries battling through the COVID-19 pandemic. Father and son, Jaime and Nick Salinas, became part of that industry when they opened Salinas Concrete in July, based in Deming and Luna County.
“We began offering septic services and made the decision to add the ready-mix concrete end to our services, Jaime told the Headlight this week. Salinas Concrete is located at 4375 McCan Road SE and offers a full line of residential, commercial and industrial concrete pouring and septic services. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. “We currently have five trucks, including a short five-yarder in service,” Nick said. “We make our own septic equipment and decided to add a little competition by putting in the concrete mix for sale.” The septic end of the business was familiar to Luna County residents as Salinas Enterprises.
The workforce includes five employees. Nick added that an increase in staff will come from prospective growth of the business and the scale of jobs that become available. “Dad (Jaime) has done a great job of getting the word out,” Nick says, he is making sure we are out there right out of the box.” No job is too small or too big for Salinas Concrete, according to Jaime. From sidewalks, patios, foundations, pool borders for in-ground swimming pools and anything that falls in-between. “If it requires concrete, we can fill that need,” Jaime explained. “Commercial, residential or industrial; we can handle the job."
“Home remodeling and pads for mobile homes are in demand right now,” Nick added. “Contractors and home owners will give us the measurements in figuring out the yards they need, and we give them the cost and pour the mix.” Salinas Concrete is not a fly-by-night business. Planning for this venture began in March of 2018. “This is a mutually supported operation as a family-owned and operated business,” Jaime said. “Our main purpose was to bring septic and concrete pouring into an efficient business operation.” The Salinas Family is based in Deming and Lorena Cole handles the front office and takes care of the books. Jaime served in the U.S. Navy and son, Nick was in the U.S. Army. “Salinas Concrete has made the commitment to honest and reliable service,” Nick said. “Customer service is first, and we bring 26 years of experience to fill the needs of our community.”
